Principal's News
Dear St Thomas Aquinas community,
This week we have Three-Way Conferences. Thank you to the parents who have booked a meeting with their child's teacher. I hope it is a lovely celebration of your child's hard work and achievements this term.
We Care for Others
This term our school wide positive behaviour focus has been on the second of our four school expectations 'We Care for Others'.
When we teach about 'We Care for Others' we talk about examples in specific contexts, e.g. at the canteen we wait our turn, in assembly we walk in quietly, at the front office we use our manners, on the playground we share spaces and equipment.
We Care for Others is also an expectation for adults in our community as well. Fundamental to this are respectful relationships. We work on making sure our community is a safe community, for parents and staff as well as students. We speak to and about each other with respect and understanding. We recognise and appreciate the efforts and strengths we share. When there are differences of ideas we listen with curiosity and express differences with kindness. We hold a place for trust. In holding respectful relationships we model for our children how to 'care for others'.
Thank you for the times you have been an example of 'care for others' to your children, helping them to bring that same spirit and behaviour to share with their peers at school.
Winter Woolies
A wonderful way we can care for others this term is through our Winter Woolies drive this Friday. Please consider providing something that will help families in need to keep warm this winter.
Rostrum
Earlier this term Year 5 and 6 students prepared speeches on one of a set of specific topics. They presented their speech to their classes and some students were selected to present to the wider student community. While there were many excellent speeches, a panel of judges selected Ava G (6 Green) as the winner of our school Rostrum competition.
This evening Ava will represent our school at the local quarter finals of the Rostrum. We're very proud to have her represent us and wish her the very best.
Semester 1 Academic Reports
As part of our reporting process across Catholic Primary Schools, the Semester One 2025 student reports will include:
- Overall A–E grades for each subject in Years 1–6
- Indicators of progress for Kindergarten in key learning areas such as English, Mathematics, Religious Education and other areas of the Australian Curriculum
Some students with complex needs will receive an adjusted report that reflects the curriculum and achievements for these students.
Please note that written comments will not be included in this semester’s report. However, they will return in Semester Two.
Reports will be distributed via Compass on Monday, 30 June.
We encourage families to review the reports together and reach out to your child’s teacher if you have any questions or would like to discuss your child’s progress further.
Student Representative Council Action!
Thank you to SRC members Molly, Charlotte and Cameron who presented to the SCC last week seeking support with two requests.
Firstly, the SRC requested the SCC assist with funding the purchase of additional Lego for our new and very popular Lego tables. This was met with a resounding affirmation.
Secondly, the SRC requested the SCC contribute to the purchase of new bubblers. The SRC had looked at examples and sought quotes, which they presented at the meeting. The SCC agreed in principle to the request and, following a little more research will make a decision at a coming meeting.
Congratulations to our young students who are learning to have a voice and make a difference for others in their immediate community.
Have a wonderful week.
